Gårdsten Basketball Court – Urban Development Project

Ecostruct Innovations AB was commissioned by the City of Gothenburg, with several municipal departments involved – including the Urban Environment Administration, the Sports and Associations Administration, and Gårdstensbostäder – to develop a new proposal for the former skate bowl in Gårdsten, an area that was no longer actively used by local residents.

The project is based on a clear request from citizens to create a professional basketball court in the area. Based on this, a concept was developed that combines a professional-grade basketball court with public accessibility, creating an inclusive environment where both organized and spontaneous sports activities can coexist.

Our solution was to transform the underutilized space into a modern and accessible outdoor basketball court, designed to promote physical activity, social interaction, and long-term use.

The project focuses on creating a safe and inclusive environment with high-quality sports infrastructure, seating areas, and integrated landscape design. The new basketball court gives the site new life and creates a functional public meeting place that supports active lifestyles and strengthens social life in the area.
